Quick note: My posts are usually layered. The introduction and closing carry the heart of the message; the aspect breakdowns are for those who enjoy the deeper cosmic mechanics. Read your way—the message will land.
On Monday, November 9th at 2:02am EST, at 16° 53′ Scorpio the Scorpio New Moon plants the seeds for a new approach.
The Scorpio New Moon picks up where the recent Taurus Full Moon left off. Both lunations explore themes of power, self-worth, control, and the tension between standing our ground and making room for others.
But while the Taurus Full Moon illuminated how we may unconsciously react to these themes, the Scorpio New Moon offers an opportunity to reflect on those reactions and consider how we might respond differently.
A New Moon marks the beginning of a new cycle. Its darkness invites us to pause, mull things over, and plant seeds for a different approach.
Several of this lunation's aspects reinforce that possibility. Mars and Jupiter in Leo challenge us to examine how we assert our will, while Venus, exalted in Libra and retrograde, is already reviewing, reconsidering, and revising her approach to relationships. Her sextile to Mars and Jupiter and trine to the North Node suggest an opportunity to create a new balance between honoring ourselves and considering others.
This Scorpio New Moon may present us with circumstances similar to what we experienced under the Taurus Full Moon.
To be forewarned is to be forearmed.
However, what we do with this second chance is up to us.
The choice is ours.
Cosmic Aspects
New Moon Square Mars/Jupiter Conjunction in Leo - THE CENTRAL TENSION
This is the dominant aspect of the lunation.
The Scorpio New Moon emphasizes psychological honesty, shared resources, trust, vulnerability, power dynamics, and the need to get beneath the surface.
Mars and Jupiter together in Leo amplify the desire to act, create, lead, express oneself, and receive recognition.
Mars wants action. Jupiter expands whatever it touches. Leo wants to do something meaningful and to do it with confidence.
The square creates tension between two different approaches:
Scorpio wants to examine what is really happening beneath the surface.
Leo wants to act boldly, visibly, and with conviction.
This can produce tremendous courage and determination, but it can also magnify ego conflicts, overconfidence, impatience, and the tendency to make a situation bigger than it needs to be — or, as my dad used to say, “Making a murder case out of a parking ticket!”
Mars/Jupiter can operate on the assumption that more effort, more force, or a bigger gesture will produce a better outcome. But Scorpio asks whether the action is actually addressing the underlying issue.
The higher expression suggests courage to confront something that has been avoided, reclaim personal power, and act from conviction rather than fear.
The shadow can manifest as turning a disagreement into a contest of wills. Overestimating one's leverage. Confusing intensity with effectiveness.
There's also a fixed-sign quality here. Scorpio and Leo can both be extraordinarily persistent. Neither particularly enjoys being told to back down.
Mars/Jupiter Conjunction in Leo Opposes the North Node in Aquarius - INDIVIDUAL WILL VERSUS COLLECTIVE DIRECTION
This introduces a larger question: How do we balance personal ambition and individual expression with the needs of the collective?
Leo represents personal creativity, leadership, recognition, and the desire to make an individual contribution. Aquarius represents community, collaboration, objectivity, shared ideals, and participation in something larger than ourselves.
Mars/Jupiter in Leo can become very focused on what I want to accomplish, what I believe, and what I deserve. Whereas, the North Node in Aquarius points toward a broader perspective.
The challenge is not to suppress individuality. It's to recognize that personal expression becomes more meaningful when it contributes to something beyond personal validation.
There can also be tension between acting from personal conviction and considering the consequences of those actions for others.
The higher expression is leadership that empowers rather than dominates. Confidence without the need for applause. Individuality that makes room for collaboration.
The shadow is prone to grandstanding, ideological rigidity, self-righteousness, and the assumption that being passionate about something automatically makes us right.
Note: The opposition to the North Node also creates a conjunction of Mars, Jupiter and the South Node emphasizing the need to release an overreliance on individual recognition, personal drama, or the need to be in charge, while developing a more collaborative and objective perspective.
Mars/Jupiter Conjunction in Leo Trines Chiron in Aries - COURAGE TO RECLAIM THE SELF
This is a particularly interesting supportive aspect.
Both Leo and Aries are fire signs. Mars rules Aries, so Chiron in Aries is operating in Mars's territory. Chiron in Aries often speaks to wounds involving identity, autonomy, self-assertion, and the right to take up space. So, there can be a sensitivity around being overlooked, not being taken seriously, or feeling that one's independence has been compromised.
Mars/Jupiter in Leo trine Chiron can provide an opening to address those wounds through constructive action. Rather than allowing an old experience of rejection or dismissal to dictate present behavior, we have an opportunity to act with greater wisdom. We can move forward in ways that expand rather than restrict our opportunities, without allowing our past to strangle our future!
This is not necessarily about eliminating the wound. It's about changing our relationship with it.
The higher expression is in taking a chance, speaking up, pursuing something personally meaningful, or allowing ourselves to be visible without needing external approval.
The shadow is found in overcompensating for insecurity through bravado, defensiveness, or an exaggerated need to prove ourselves.
One distinction I'd make: courage isn't the absence of vulnerability. It's the willingness to act without requiring vulnerability to disappear first.
Mars/Jupiter Conjunction in Leo Sextiles Venus in Libra - ASSERTION MEETS DIPLOMACY
This is a welcome counterbalance to the more confrontational possibilities of the Mars/Jupiter conjunction. Mars/Jupiter wants action and enthusiasm. Venus in Libra wants cooperation, fairness, reciprocity, and mutual consideration.
The sextile suggests that confidence and diplomacy can work together.
The gift of this aspect is an opportunity to pursue what we want without disregarding others, express affection and appreciation more generously, find common ground without abandoning personal convictions and bring creativity and enjoyment into relationships.
Venus in Libra is particularly concerned with balance. It doesn't necessarily mean avoiding conflict; it means recognizing that how we handle conflict matters.
The higher expression is assertiveness with grace, generosity without self-sacrifice and confidence without aggression.
The shadow is using charm to avoid difficult conversations or prioritizing harmony at the expense of honesty.
Venus in Libra Opposes Chiron in Aries - THE TENSION BETWEEN BELONGING AND BEING OURSELVES
This is perhaps the most psychologically revealing relationship aspect in the configuration. Venus in Libra wants connection, acceptance, mutuality, and partnership. Chiron in Aries raises questions about individuality, independence, and the right to have our own needs.
The opposition can expose a familiar dilemma:
How much of myself do I compromise to maintain a relationship?
There may be sensitivity around rejection, not being chosen, feeling unappreciated, or having to accommodate others to preserve a connection.
Sometimes the wound isn't simply that someone doesn't love or appreciate us. It's that we feel we have to diminish ourselves to receive that love or appreciation.
This aspect invites a reconsideration of what constitutes a healthy compromise.
The higher expression recognizes that healthy relationships require two people who can remain themselves while making room for each other.
The shadow resorts to people-pleasing, resentment, hypersensitivity to rejection, or swinging between accommodation and defensiveness.
Venus in Libra Trine North Node in Aquarius - RELATIONSHIPS THAT SUPPORT GROWTH
This lovely aspect has Venus connecting two air signs: Libra and Aquarius.
Venus in Libra values fairness and reciprocity. Aquarius broadens the concept of relationship beyond conventional expectations.
This can emphasize friendships, community, shared ideals, intellectual compatibility, and connections that allow people to be individuals.
It also suggests that some of our most meaningful connections develop when we stop trying to make everyone agree with us.
The higher expression is in finding people and communities with whom we can share values without requiring sameness.
The shadow can be found in becoming detached or overly intellectual when emotional engagement is actually needed.
In Closing…
The Scorpio New Moon reminds us that familiar challenges don't have to produce familiar reactions. We may not be able to control what others do, change circumstances overnight, or avoid every uncomfortable confrontation. But we can become more conscious of what drives our responses.
Mars and Jupiter in Leo offer courage and confidence, but their square to the New Moon cautions against letting pride or the need to prove ourselves dictate our actions. Venus's connections with Mars, Jupiter and the North Node offer another possibility: honoring our own needs while remaining open to fairness, understanding, and mutual respect.
We don't have to surrender our power to accommodate others, nor do we have to overpower others to preserve our own.
Sometimes the greatest show of strength is choosing not to repeat a pattern that no longer serves us.
Under this new moon, we may find ourselves facing familiar circumstances, but we don't have to fall into familiar, automatic patterns of reaction
To paraphrase John Milton in his 1667 epic poem Paradise Lost (Book 3, lines 98–99): We were made just and right, sufficient to stand, though free to fall.
The choice is ours.
New Moon Blessings,
Brenda
